Registering

All users belonging to the Library have to register or re-register at the beginning of every academic year.

To borrow any stock you will need to complete a Library Registration form and hand it in at the library counter, along with £50.00 cash. Please note: If you issue us with a cheque, the cheque will be cashed. Please make the cheque payable to YMCA George Williams College. Your deposit of £50 is rolled over each year and your deposit will be returned to you at the end of your studies, once all outstanding items have been returned.

Once you have been issued with a Library card you will be able to borrow library items.  This card remains with you for the whole duration of your course.  Remember you are responsible for any material on loan on your card and any loss will have to be paid for.  Please ensure you keep your Library Reader Card safely as there will be a replacement fee of £5.00 for each card lost

The number of books you can take out depends on what course you are on. Please see list below

Fines

If you borrow an item that is later recalled by the Library for another reader, please return it within a week of its due date, or you will be subject to a fine of a £1 per week or part of a week that it is late.  Any fines, or the replacement cost of loan items not returned, would be deducted from your cash deposit. Failure to return outstanding items may result in losing your deposit or delaying the issue of your qualification.

E- Library

Once you have registered with the YMCA College and Canterbury Christchurch University (CCCU), you will be able to use CCCU e-facilities.

You will have to have a computer account with CCCU - a username and password which you obtain through CCCU.

Reserving items

Students themselves can reserve up to 3 items

You will only be able to reserve an item if it is not on the shelf and shown to be not available.   i.e. items already on loan can be reserved.

Once you have found your item on the enquiry menu, click on the top reserve button.

This will prompt you to enter your library reader card number.

Enter your details.

The system will then inform you that the item has been reserved for you.

Please remember to check the items’ due date, as this is when the item should be returned at the latest.

Once a reserved item is returned, it will be held for 5 working days for students.   It can be sent to you by post. Students will have to pay the postage cost.
